It ended in a 1-3 defeat in Monday’s TV match against Viborg, after FCH failed to answer back to Viborg’s lightning start after a few minutes.
The rain fell heavily over Helsingør Stadium, but already after three minutes FCH was hit with extra cold water in the face. Oliver Tychosen beat the offside trap on the right side and cut in towards the box. There he laid a sharp ball back to Christian Sivebæk. He finished high and accurately toward the far corner, and the ball flew into the net with no chance for Mikkel Bruhn.
0-1 Viborg FF
After 11 minutes of play, Thychosen again broke away on the right side and delivered a precise cross to the head of Andreas Albers, who came up at the back post. The striker was completely free at the back post, but his header was too close to Mikkel Bruhn, who was able to parry the shot.
Just before we reached a quarter of an hour of play, FCH had their first big chance. TK played a fine pass across the pitch to Jonas Henriksen, who beat his marker and cut into the box. He found Carl Lange with a through ball in behind, and the winger drove to the byline and sent the ball low across the box. In front of goal, both Holst and Daniel Jørgensen were not far from reaching the ball, but no one could get to it, and it flew all the way through the box among friends and foes. A big chance for FCH.
After 20 minutes Viborg went up 2-0. A corner was cleared out of FCH’s box, but a Viborg player was ready to collect the rebound. The ball was sent back into the box, where this time it was Andreas Albers who beat the offside trap. He threw himself forward and got a toe to the ball, which again went in beyond Bruhn’s reach.
0-2 Viborg FF
After 32 minutes of play, it was extremely close for FCH. Carl Lange won a free kick on the right side of the pitch. Christian “TK” Køhler took the dead ball and played a precise cross to the back post. Daniel Jørgensen came forward there and got a foot to the ball, but his shot could not beat Ingvar Jónsson, who, all the way out by the post, parried the ball with a reflex save.
A few minutes later Anders Holst won a ball in midfield and drove up the pitch. Pressured by a Viborg defender, the midfielder shot, but the ball went a fair bit over the goal. An excellent move by Holst.
The rest of the half was marked by fight and close battles on the rain-soaked pitch, without the big open chances for either team. Closest was Albers, who rose for a header at the near post, but headed wide of both the post and Mikkel Bruhn, who nevertheless seemed to have the situation under control.
And so FC Helsingør had to go into the dressing room after a half in which Viborg clearly had the upper hand in play.
Barely 30 seconds had been played before Helsingør got a huge chance. Douglas got the ball in the box and moved left. He rounded keeper Jónsson and sent the ball toward goal. But on the line, a Viborg player got there and cleared the ball out for a corner. Helsingør’s biggest chance in the match up to that point.
But three minutes later Viborg were sharper. Oliver Thychosen played a razor-sharp diagonal pass that found Christian Sivebæk on the right wing. He drove to the byline and played a cross to Andreas Albers at the far post, who, completely unmarked, could head the ball into the net.
0-3 Viborg FF
After an hour of play, FCH made three substitutions and sent Bay, Patrick Olsen and Nicolas Mortensen onto the pitch in an attempt to turn the match around.
However, it was Daniel Jørgensen who, after 67 minutes, came close when he headed just wide of goal from a corner. It was, however, a warning of more to come, as two minutes later he again rose highest from a corner. This time it was right in front of goal, and the tall defender did not miss, heading the ball powerfully into the net.
1-3 FC Helsingør
The next quarter of an hour was marked by plenty of FCH possession and battling in midfield, where Viborg primarily lurked for counters. Neither team managed to create the big open chances, although FCH in this phase put together a decent press on the visitors.
Just under five minutes from time, Holst was free on the right side in Viborg’s box after a clever combination, but his shot went over the goal.
FCH did not come any closer, as Viborg were quite happy to defend the lead home, and FC Helsingør had to swallow a defeat that could not really be faulted much.
