Now that we have completed the season 2018-19, I would like to thank each and every one in and around FC Helsingør for your support of the club this season. Unfortunately, it has ended in relegation to the second division, but nevertheless the future is in many ways brighter than ever for the club.
We are entering a new era for FC Helsingør; new owners, a new, beautiful stadium that opens in the summer, and a continued commitment to having a first team that each and every one of us can be proud of. My focus going forward will be on finding the balance between strengthening the first-team squad through the opportunities available in our collaboration abroad, and in particular the USA, while at the same time holding on to the club’s core values and soul, which is the local foundation.
I have recently deliberately spent time and energy meeting the local community in Helsingør and around the club, by visiting and talking with some of the feeder clubs, by traveling with our U15 boys to a major youth tournament in Holland, and by spending time with our girls’ academy program over the past week.
On the pitch we will maintain our professional full-time setup, and use all our time and energy to get the club straight back into the First Division. We look with excitement to the group of new players who will come to the club this summer, which includes the two New Zealand U20 players Dalton and Eli, who are currently playing in the U20 World Cup in Poland. In addition, we look forward to promoting several of our own academy players to the first team, and continuing to sign contracts with young, Danish quality players. We are in the process of building a squad that will play attractive quality football, with a focus on attacking football, which can excite us all.
I fully understand the concerns associated with relegation to the second division, but we are confident and optimistic about the club’s future. This will only be a temporary setback for us, and we have a clear intention of laying out an effective strategy to return to the first division as quickly as possible, with an eye on a return to the Superliga thereafter. Changes will be inevitable, but regardless of which division we play in, we will not change the club’s DNA, which will be a professional operation, bringing top talents to the club, and a strong foundation in the club’s local community.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all personally for your support and backing of FC Helsingør.
All the best
Jordan Gardner
