There was plenty of action when FC Helsingør met Superliga relegation side Lyngby BK in a training match at Lyngby’s training ground on Saturday afternoon.
The rain poured down throughout the match, which at times led to some strange situations when the ball suddenly lay dead in a puddle or the like.
The match was barely four minutes old when Lyngby took the lead. After a free kick out on the right side, the ball was played into the box, and after a bit of ping-pong the ball ended up at the feet of Emil Nielsen, who coolly placed it into the far corner.
1-0 Lyngby BK
After 12 minutes Lyngby could have extended the lead with a dangerous long-range shot, but Christoffer Petersen stretched full length and tipped the ball wide of the goal. Good save by the FCH goalkeeper.
Instead FC Helsingør got on the board. Young Alexander Lyng was given the chance from the start in FCH’s attacking midfield, and after just over a quarter of an hour he dribbled past one man and drove into the box. With no passing options, Lyng chose to shoot himself, and he put the ball in with a cool, low shot.
1-1 FCH
And after 22 minutes FC Helsingør then went ahead. Oliver Drost scored against Helsingborg in the training match the other day, and he scored for the second training match in a row when he took advantage of a free kick a little two or three meters outside the box. Drost hammered the ball under the wall and into the goal all the way out by the left post.
1-2 FC Helsingør
FC Helsingør had a lot of the play in the first half and moved the ball around well among themselves. Therefore it was fully deserved that the drenched players could go into halftime with a one-goal lead for the Helsingør side.
From the start of the second half, FCH again took the initiative, and it had not been more than five minutes when Alexander Lyng once again showed his great talent. The midfielder cut in from the left and finished brilliantly into the opposite corner with no chance for Lyngby’s goalkeeper Frederik Schram.
1-3 FC Helsingør
After that, the second half continued as the first had left off, with many good moves from FC Helsingør, who played the ball really well around among themselves and several times were close to breaking through. The biggest chance came after ten minutes, when Oliver Kjærgaard found Sebastian Czajkowski with a superb pass. Czajkowski drove toward goal, but the Lyngby keeper stayed put and blocked Czajkowski’s shot toward the far corner. Lyngby mostly lurked for set pieces and counterattacking opportunities, which never really materialized.
Instead, substitute Tonni Adamsen could extend the lead after 65 minutes, when Frederik Juul put another good through ball forward from midfield. Adamsen got past his man, waited coolly for the goalkeeper’s move, and chipped the ball beautifully over him. Lovely counterattack goal from Juul and Adamsen in combination.
1-4 FC Helsingør
It then looked like the holy grave was well guarded, but in the last quarter of an hour FC Helsingør dropped a little too deep on the pitch and handed the initiative to Lyngby. That produced a couple of dangerous chances, where first the post and then a puddle (!) saved FCH. In the long run, however, it did not hold, and in the last five minutes first Lasse Fosgaard could score with a hard shot from the edge of the box after FCH’s defense failed to clear the ball, and Magnus Westergaard could score a minute later on a clever counterattack after Lyngby won the ball centrally.
3-4 Lyngby BK
FC Helsingør then circulated the ball among themselves, but at the very last moment Lyngby still managed to come back. Trialist Morten Knudsen was unlucky to go in slightly wrong in a tackle in the box, and the referee immediately blew for a penalty. Kasper Jørgensen stepped up to the ball, but Christoffer Petersen read him and made a fine save. Unfortunately, it was the experienced Lasse Fosgaard who got to the rebound first, and Fosgaard calmly put the ball past Petersen in the match’s final action.
4-4 Lyngby BK
So the match ended in a draw, somewhat undeserved based on play and chances, but with a good lesson in never taking victory for granted before the match is over. The next task already awaits tomorrow, Sunday, when FC Helsingør travels to Brøndby to face Brøndby’s reserve team. It is at 12.00.
