New coach – New style
Most of the training camp is now over, and we therefore sat down with coach Daniel Pedersen to evaluate the trip and at the same time delve a little deeper into what is being worked on on the pitch under his leadership.
What feeling are you left with after the two completed training matches and the training camp as a whole?
We still have a few days and a few training sessions left that we need to use wisely.
I think it has been a good trip. It was planned a little late, but I am glad that we went. So far I have a good feeling and a good impression because we have had the opportunity to work more in depth on some of the things that were in focus before we left and that we have now had the opportunity to dig a little deeper into down here.
So it has been really positive.
The players have had to get used to a somewhat new playing style under you as coach. How do you think the implementation of that has gone?
Partly well, and some places less well. But that is very expected, because these are new things we are working with and some new layers we are trying to add. We know that the players are really good at what they have done before, and they must continue to keep that in their back pocket, so when we depend on it in matches, they still need to be able to use it.
But there are clearly some new things that we are trying to add and give them some new tools, so that we as a club also get a more consistent expression. Also so that it becomes easier for our young players to step into the senior team.
The two training matches are over, and it is no secret that match number two against Tobol looked somewhat better in terms of play than the first against Struga FC. Especially the first half. Do you share that view?
Yes. I think the whole match was really good, but in the first half we put together a lot of things on the ball that we can be satisfied with and actually also proud of when we have only been working on it for a relatively short time. It was clearly the kind of expression we want when we play. In the second half we were not quite as clearly on the ball, but on the other hand we had some defensive actions, both individually, but also as a team we show that we stand strong. And then we still create three or four really good chances.
So from the match against Vanløse at home in Denmark to the now completed match against Tobol, are you overall satisfied with the development and is it moving in a positive direction?
Yes, I think so. It still comes in moments. In the Vanløse match we had 25 minutes to start with, which were really good and exactly what we want. We were very much in the breakthrough phase because they sat deep and we looked good there. But after the first 25 minutes we started to slack off and get a little too careless.
In the first match there were some nice moments, but unfortunately there was a long way between them. In the matches down here there were many more things clicking, and we need to get these moments even closer together. But it takes time.
Which parts of the game need even more focus before we return home to Denmark and the rest of the season awaits?
We need to be even more clear in our pressing game and have control over the different pressing variations we can use. Then I think we look reasonable in our build-up play, but still lack enough big chances. We are already creating some big ones, but that number needs to go up, so we are sure to win matches.
The team returns to Denmark on Thursday, where preparations for this year’s match for the Øresund Cup begin.
The match will be played at Helsingør Stadion at 16:00 on Saturday D. 11/2.
Before the match, Hillerød and Hobro will play their postponed NordicBet Liga fixture at 13:00 also at Helsingør Stadion, so there is every chance of a great football party.
