FC Helsingør has its coaching staff in place
Alvaro Santos took over the team in October 2023 and has since worked to change the results on the pitch by making changes to the squad, formation and playing style.
During the winter break, we have put together a new and strong team off the pitch. The new faces in the coaching office have been found through Alvaro Santos’ connections in the world of football.
Swede Patrik Abrahamsson is the new man on the coaching staff. Alvaro and Patrik know each other from their time together at Helsingborgs IF. Over the past two years he has impressed in his role as goalkeeper coach and set-piece specialist for the Swedish SuperEttan side Trelleborgs FF. Patrik is also attached to the youth setup of the Swedish national team, where he is around U-16.
27-year-old Patrik chose, after the end of the Swedish season, to seek new challenges, and he has now found them in Helsingør. He will work closely with the team’s three goalkeepers and at the same time he will work with analysis and execution of the team’s set pieces.
“I have just moved to Helsingborg with my family, so when the opportunity arose to become part of the team here in Helsingør, it made perfect sense. I have worked with Alvaro earlier in my career, and I am sure that our cooperation will be successful. I find the club and the project very interesting, and I see good opportunities to make a difference. I have great faith in my own abilities, and I will work purposefully to help the club improve its current position. In addition to goalkeeper coaching, I have also worked extensively with set pieces, where we at Trelleborg showed good results and were effective, so here I can help make a difference.”
The head coach is also delighted to now be able to work even more closely with the young Swede.
“I have seen Patrik grow a great deal as a goalkeeper coach over the past few years. I followed him as a goalkeeper coach at youth level for the Swedish national team and later at Trelleborg. He is also very skilled when it comes to set pieces. With Patrik’s arrival, the staff around me and the rest of the team are almost in place. Our staff is professional and we have a lot of quality. But at the end of the day, it is about getting the team to perform, which is our top priority.”
Ricardo Resende has joined in a newly created position as analyst. In Brazil, Ricardo has worked with some of the country’s best clubs, such as Cruzeiro, Botafogo and most recently Fluminense. He has been around both the first teams and youth teams at the various clubs, and he has also obtained the Brazilian coaching licenses equivalent to the DBU’s. In addition, he has a university degree in physiology.
So this is an extremely competent gentleman with lots of experience, who has now chosen to swap the warm latitudes and a home ground at Maracanã for freezing temperatures in Helsingør. Head coach Alvaro Santos also believes that the two Brazilians can build something special together.
“I am very pleased with Ricardo’s approach. We have two different ways of looking at the game. I see a lot of football through my eyes as a former player and immerse myself in it very much, whereas Ricardo is incredibly skilled in the analytical side. He is good at identifying the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses and takes a more tactical approach than I do. I think we will complement each other well. We have spent a lot of the first period together analyzing the team and the squad and figuring out where we can improve ahead of the start of the season.”
Ricardo himself is also excited about this new challenge, where not only the work of improving the team will be a challenge, but also the move to Denmark, which will be his first job abroad.
“I see a lot of opportunities, both for myself and the team, but also for my family. After fifteen years in Brazil, it is time for the next step in my career. I am excited about this new challenge in a new country with a different playing style from what I am used to. I have already seen a lot of quality in the team and some skilled players who can also do things individually. We need to continue working on the balance of the team, but I see good opportunities for improvements that can lead us to start winning football matches.”
