DEAR FANS AND FOLLOWERS,
Last Friday, what we had long feared came to pass. To chants and rhythms from 1. division’s largest and best-singing fan group, Kronborgs Drenge, we lost at Farum Park to Hillerød Fodbold. That made the relegation we had long feared would come a reality. On an otherwise beautiful spring evening, the downturn for FC Helsingør came to a head. The journey home from Farum was heavy, and even the blooming lilac bushes no longer smelled sweet.
Football is associated with ups and downs. Every year there are both winners and losers. As fantastic as we remember the run in the Superliga, just as bitter is the experience of relegation to 2. division. We know it well, but even so it hurts just as much to draw the black Peter every time it happens to your own club.
At the same time, it is no secret that the season has been extraordinarily full of challenges both on and off the pitch. Things are connected. At the club, we acknowledge and share the disappointment you as fans must feel over our shared fate this year. None of us had the imagination to picture that the season would end so sadly.
You should know that at the club we are more than grateful for your support throughout the entire season. It means everything. And we sincerely regret that we have not been able to repay your commitment with the results you as fans deserved.
Regarding the organized part of the support, we send special kudos to the always atmosphere-creating Kronborgs Drenge. And to FC Helsingør Fodboldfans, who have chartered away buses and helped create good karma around the club. Let this be a call to everyone: Support our fan groups and volunteers – they are a huge asset not only for the club, but for the whole city.
In the coming period, we will hold player talks alongside training. Some have contracts expiring or relegation clauses, and in any case it is important that we get a constructive outcome from the season’s final three matches. In collaboration with our talented academy, we are looking ahead to next season and are now beginning to build the new team.
In the meantime, we ask for your continued support and belief in the club’s future. Together we are stronger – we feel that very concretely in the fan bar, when you have honored the man of the match with genuine passion, so that it could be heard all the way down in the dressing room (where, as an aside, it has also been very quiet after the latest matches 😥). We need each other to move forward well.
If you haven’t listened to the latest edition of Cementen, then do so. Here Bo answers questions both about the season that has passed and about the future both on and off the pitch. The episode was recorded a little over a week ago, when relegation was still not a reality. But the premise for the podcast was basically clear already then. So a big thank you also to Cementen, for following the team both lovingly and critically.
Tonight at 18:30, our wild U19 team plays the national cup final at Tingbjerg Park. Come and support them. They are a living symbol that for FC Helsingør there is reason for optimism about the future.
Forza FC Helsingør – See you at the stadium!
