So it was not more than three minutes before Mikkel Bruhn came out a little awkwardly to a ball. His goal kick was blocked, and after a bit of ping-pong the ball ended up with Teemu Pukki, who directed the ball into the net with his chest.
1-0 Brøndby IF
The disappointing start did not, however, shake the FCH players more than that they quickly got the lines organized again, and a couple of loose attempts at another Brøndby goal were shut down before it became truly dangerous.
After a little over half an hour, however, it was close to going wrong when BIF's Tibbing got through on the flank, but fortunately he lacked the final sharpness.
FC Helsingør did, however, grow more and more into the match, and were looking for the counterattack that could level things up. First Mikkel Basse got onto a cross from a well-playing Ricki Olsen, but his header went straight into the gloves of Rønnow, and then Anders Holst was close when he shot over from close range.
But the ball would not go in, not even for Brøndby's Mukhtar, who just before halftime sent a shot narrowly over the crossbar, and so the halftime break came with a 1-0 lead for the visitors.
It was Brøndby who came out best after the break, and no more than two minutes had been played when Pukki set off down the right side, but his finish went into the side netting. Helsingør ate their way back into the match, and for long periods it was hard to see the difference between the football millionaires from Vestegnen and the promoted side from Helsingør.
After 71 minutes, FCH then got a half lifeline when the referee gave Brøndby's Anthony Jung his second yellow card and sent the left back off early. But despite good pressure from the well-playing Helsingør midfield, and a big chance for Mikkel Basse in stoppage time, FCH could not break down the Brøndby defense, which was able to defend the narrow lead home.
Yet another narrow defeat in an otherwise well-played match. But Christian Lønstrup was upbeat after the match.
– The last two matches have been good for us. I have otherwise been a little worried earlier, regarding how many goals we have conceded, but the foundation has held up lately. When you look at the statistics for possession and the percentages, we are close to being the best-playing team today. It is Scandinavia's best team we are up against, with a budget that is 20 times as large as ours, so I think it is clearly acceptable today.
Of course I am disappointed, and it is a shame for the players that we have lost six in a row, but I am sure that if we play as we have done in the last couple of matches, then we can also take points from Silkeborg on Saturday.
