FC Helsingør took the long trip to Hobro this evening to play the 2. round in the NordicBet Liga.
The team bus was delayed due to an accident on the Little Belt Bridge, which caused quite a traffic jam. The team bus did eventually reach Hobro, but not in time for kickoff at 18.30. Therefore, the match was postponed by 20 minutes. Not the best build-up to a difficult away match.
The delay was not visible on the pitch. FC Helsingør had far more possession and also created a few good chances in the 1. half. After just 10 minutes of play, Alexander Lyng tries a fine shot from outside the box, but the Hobro goalkeeper saves it for a corner kick. In the 18. minute, Oliver Kjærgaard also attempts a long-range effort, which hits a Hobro defender and goes just wide of the Hobro goal. We go into halftime with the score 0-0.
From the start of the 2. half, FC Helsingør continue to have the most possession. The combinations flow nicely, but it does not really become dangerous. It does, however, in the 63. minute, when FC Helsingør win a free kick just outside the box on Hobro’s left side. Nicklas Mouritsen steps up and smashes it toward the far corner, but the Hobro goalkeeper dives and manages to push the ball away for a corner. Hobro then take over more and more of the match and are dangerous from corners, among other things. After about 70. minutes, Hobro do get a chance with a long-range shot that goes just wide. Hobro continue to press in this period and in the 75. minute it goes wrong for FC Helsingør. Hobro win a corner and the ball is crossed into the box, where Simon Jakobsen rises highest and heads the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0 to Hobro. After the 1-0 goal, FC Helsingør try to press, while Hobro remain dangerous on the counterattack. In the last 5 minutes of the match, Nicolai Geertsen is pushed all the way up front and Oliver Drost is substituted on. Long balls are sent into the Hobro box and FC Helsingør come close with a couple of big chances through Callum McCowatt and Oliver Drost. Only heroic defending by Hobro defender Simon Jakobsen prevents the equalizer and the match ends in a 1-0 win for Hobro IK.
Thus FC Helsingør are still without points after the first 2 rounds of the NordicBet Liga. The next match in the NordicBet Liga is played at Helsingør Stadion on Friday, 5 August at 19.00, when FC Fredericia come to visit.
Before the next league match, however, there is a cup match when FC Helsingør travel to Hvidovre IF on Tuesday, 2 August, with kickoff at 18.00.
