Morten Eskesen has entered into an agreement with the DBU to become the new coach of the U18/U19 national team.

Today we say goodbye to Morten after 3,5 years at the helm of FC Helsingør. Morten came here from a role as assistant coach at Randers FC. He took over the team after a turbulent period, where the club was relegated to the 2 division.

With assistant coach Mikkel Thygesen by his side, he has worked intensely to make FC Helsingør competitive in the NordicBet Liga and was very close last season to promotion to the Superliga.

This season Morten, despite a thin squad and changes in the ownership group, has managed to remain among the six best teams in the league before the spring season starts again.

Morten is happy about his time at FC Helsingør, and now he is moving on to new challenges in the national team context, and he is looking forward to that:

“It has been 3,5 fantastic years at FC Helsingør, and I am both happy and proud of the work I have done here in Helsingør. I leave the club stable in top-6, and now I look forward to becoming part of the national team staff at the DBU. Here I can contribute positively, and I am excited to get started with the collaboration with all the clubs”

About head coach Morten, sporting director Janus Kyhl says:

“It's with a great sense of pride that we are now sending Morten Eskesen on to the DBU and a role as U18/19 national coach. The greatest thing one can achieve in a football career is to make it to the national team, both as a player and as a coach, and the inquiry that came from the DBU, we have of course said yes to.

Morten will help develop Denmark's very best talents, and at the same time he will become part of a national team staff with some fantastic professional competencies. It goes without saying that this also says something about Morten's qualities, and everything he has to offer. These are qualities we have greatly enjoyed at FC Helsingør over the past almost 4 years, and now we look forward to following Morten's work at the DBU.

I would like to thank Morten for a dedicated effort for our club. He is a really talented coach we are saying goodbye to, but also a fantastic person with personal qualities that we will miss.”

About the new addition to the Youth National Team coaching staff, Kenneth Heiner-Møller, Talent and Development Manager at the DBU, says:

“I am happy to be able to add Morten Eskesen to the team. We know Morten from before, and know he brings professional expertise that will develop the talents he gets in his hands. I also want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to FC Helsingør for giving us and Morten the opportunity to begin the collaboration before his contract in Helsingør expired.”

Daniel K. Pedersen will temporarily take over the role of head coach until a permanent solution is found. Daniel has been part of the talent academy for many years and therefore has a comprehensive insight into the club. Tomorrow when we play a friendly match against FC Nordsjælland, it will therefore be Daniel who stands on the sideline as head coach.

About the choice of the new temporary head coach Daniel K. Pedersen, Janus Kyhl says:

“We have been given the opportunity to borrow our talented U19 Head Coach, Daniel K. Pedersen, who in the coming period will take over training of the first team in close cooperation with our assistant coach, Mikkel Thygesen. This also shows something about the great qualities that exist in our academy, when we can let an academy coach take over as temporary coach for our first team. Daniel takes over training from today, and will lead the team in tomorrow's friendly match against FC Nordsjælland.

The work to recruit a new head coach has begun, and we hope to be able to present our future head coach within the coming weeks.”
