Match report: Skive – FC Helsingør 1-1

On Friday evening FC Helsingør traveled to Hancock Arena, where Skive awaited in the first match of the year.
It became a hard-fought battle on a difficult and heavy pitch, which ultimately ended in a draw after 1-1.

The first half offered a evenly matched affair, where both teams fought to gain control of the game. After a somewhat messy start, FC Helsingør gradually gained the upper hand, and toward the end of the half we settled nicely into the match. Unfortunately, Frederik Karlsen had to leave the field with an injury after just 30 minutes of play and was replaced by Mikkel Knudsen.
A few minutes later, Tobias Augustinus was close to putting us ahead when he hit the crossbar in the 37th minute.

After the break, the boys continued the good play and were rewarded after an hour of play, when Oliver Drost rose highest and headed a well-placed corner into the net for 1-0.
Shortly before that, head coach Marc Velasco had made a double substitution, with Tobias Elmelund and Rasmus Sjøholm coming on in place of Tobias Augustinus and Nikolaj Bagger.

Unfortunately, the lead did not last long. Skive responded quickly and equalized to 1-1. Despite a red card for Skive in the dying minutes of the match, there was not enough time for the boys to truly make use of the numerical advantage. Thus, we had to settle for 1-1 in the spring opener.

Despite the disappointment of not holding on to the win, the team showed strong character and took an important point home – along with many positive moments to build on!

The next task already awaits on Saturday, when FC Helsingør plays their first home match of the spring against Aarhus Fremad.
