During the spring, FC Helsingør and Nødebo School have run a completely new project, where two youth coaches from FC Helsingør have trained school classes in football during the school day. The project continues again in the autumn. Patrick Scheibel and Jacob Nordstrøm Scheel, respectively assistant coach on U19 and children's coach at FCH's DBU Top and Talent Center, have coached the classes from 0th grade and up to fifth grade one day a week, where all classes have been by the gymnasium for a lesson in football and movement.
– We focused on everyone getting a ball, and on everyone getting active, more than actual football training or tactical training, says Patrick Scheibel.
– For us, playing with the ball, and the kids getting active with a ball at their feet was the most important thing. Everyone should be able to take part, while at the same time we tried to create some exercises that they thought were the most fun. It is clear that the older the children have been, the more complicated exercises we have been able to do, but the most important thing was that everyone was included in the training.
Initially the project ran from week one to eight, but it has now been extended with another round from week 36 to 42. The FCH coaches have been employed on temporary contracts on the days they have trained, and those agreements are now being extended
The subsequent evaluation from the school has been very positive, says T+ Coach from FCH, René Lybek Hansen
– Nødebo School has been very satisfied with the two coaches' pedagogical approach, and the way the exercises have been carried out. The teachers have also praised the way Patrick and Jacob have gotten all the children involved, including those who are not normally so fond of PE and physical activities. The children have been active and have had a joy in physical activity, which has been beneficial for both the kids and their schooling. Therefore the school has also wished to continue the collaboration into the autumn. It is our hope and plan that we can expand the collaboration to more schools in North Zealand, and give a lot of children up here a joy in playing with the ball that hopefully will stay with them as they grow older.
Henrik Løber from Nødebo IF has facilitated the contact between FC Helsingør and Nødebo School, and he too believes the project has been a great success:
– It has been absolutely excellent with this FCH school project at Nødebo School. The more physical activity that can be brought into the children's long school day, the better. Football as a team sport can do many positive things, and it is fantastic to see football integrated into the school day across all year groups at Nødebo School. The school project is yet another positive story for the soon-to-be 2-year collaboration between Nødebo IF and FC Helsingør.
