After the defeat at 3-0 to Hvidovre, coach Morten Eskesen reflected on the team’s performance.
“Overall, it is of course disappointing that we lose 3-0. That we don’t score and we concede three goals. Based on the chances in the game, it is undeserved that we don’t score and they score three goals. But Hvidovre were efficient and we make big mistakes, which cost us already after 4 minutes.”
“I know very well that mistakes are always made on goals, but today we make big mistakes in our defending, which means that Hvidovre score at the right times and then we spend more and more energy trying to come back. We create chances, but on the day we are not good enough to score. We have the chances needed — both in the first half and at the start of the second half — but when we don’t score, the game tips toward Hvidovre’s side and then in the end there is a class difference. It is easy to play well when you are up 3-0.”
The goal scorer was also a topic after the match, where today’s 3 concessions meant a total goal difference for FC Helsingør of 3-12 in the league as well as 7 goals against in the team’s last three matches across competitions.
“We still need to be better at clearing the ball in the decisive situations. Last year there were a lot of goals from crosses, so what we have trained the most is actually how we defend against crosses. In terms of the positions and who takes whom, and yet two goals are still scored from crosses today.”
“So it is back to the training ground and keep working on the things so we can minimize the goals against. Because there is nothing more demotivating than when the opponents score and especially not in a way we have focused a lot on and spent a lot of energy on. So defensively we need to become even sharper and even better.”
As early as three days after Saturday’s match against Hvidovre, the favorites from Sønderjyske await away from home. The question is whether anything at all can be taken positively from the 3-0 defeat?
“You can always take something with you, both bad and good. The good thing today was that in the periods where we play best, we play nicely and quickly and we create some chances, so that we can take with us. But of course when you have lost 3-0 there are also many things you cannot take with you, but we learn from every single match and we have four matches within the next fourteen days. So of course we need to be annoyed, but we have to move on. On Tuesday one of the favorites for the Superliga awaits and they also only have good players.”
“But we also have to acknowledge Hvidovre, they finished 3 last and they have basically the same team. They have had a few additions, so it is an insanely strong team.
And when we on the day do not reach the level we did in Hvidovre ten days ago, then we lose.
“We need to do better on Tuesday where we meet a really strong team and on Friday we meet Fremad Amager, who are also a really strong team. So it is a strong 1. Division and we are grinding on with the material we have and I think we have some good material.
Today we just do not hit the day at the times where we should have done”
