FC Helsingør has appointed 34-year-old Mikkel Thygesen as new assistant coach. The former Brøndby and FC Midtjylland captain joins the club after his contract at FC Roskilde was terminated earlier this summer, and Thygesen decided to end his active football career.
The midfielder played over 320 matches in the Superliga, scoring 49 goals, and also had a brief spell abroad, where he played one season for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Chairman of the board Jordan Gardner is convinced of Thygesen’s potential:
– Mikkel has made a really good impression on us in the conversations we have had. He is a knowledgeable and pleasant guy, with very extensive experience as a player from some of the biggest Danish clubs, from abroad, and from the national team. We are certain that the leadership experience he has gained as a player and as captain, at clubs such as FC Midtjylland and Brøndby, will be a really good foundation for his transition into the role of assistant coach. We are very excited to welcome Mikkel to FCH.
Mikkel Thygesen himself is looking forward to the challenge at FC Helsingør:
– We have been in contact for some time, but I immediately thought it sounded like an extremely exciting project. I was attracted by the level of ambition, and the professional setup. It suits me very well to be part of a project where there is something at stake. That has been the case in most of the clubs I have been in over the last 17 years, and that is how I like it best. Even though I am of course green as a coach, I bring a lot of leadership experience, and I have had many different kinds of coaches in my career, from whom I have learned a great deal.
– Now I’m just looking forward to getting started and meeting everyone on and around the team. I have of course spoken quite a bit with head coach Morten Eskesen, and “Eske” seems like a great guy, and he has a really exciting coaching profile and way of thinking about football. I am very much looking forward to getting started with the collaboration with him, and to getting started at FCH.
