Oliver Drost comes straight from a hat-trick against FC Fredericia. Now he must carry on the goal-scoring form in the Oddset Cup against Lyngby Boldklub, a match that should help kick-start FC Helsingør’s season.
A year ago FC Helsingør was the executioner, when Lyngby Boldklub was sent out of the Oddset Cup. 2-0 the Boys from Kronborg won on that occasion, and now the two clubs are again facing each other when there is cup football in the North Zealand town on Tuesday evening.
Once again, Oliver Drost is expected to lead FC Helsingør’s attack, and he is ready to send Lyngby out of the tournament again.
– Last time it was a bit of revenge for them stealing a Superliga spot from us. But it’s always fun to face Lyngby, says Drost.
– Looking at our season, we have had it tough so far. Lyngby, on the other hand, comes from their ‘great escape’ in the spring, and they have just kept their form going from there, so there is no doubt that they are big favorites in the match. So we need a bit of that cup magic.
– But it would be a huge boost to our entire season to knock Lyngby out. There is no doubt about that. It would create enormous belief in things and belief that our abilities are for more than what we have shown so far this season.
The striker arrives brimming with confidence for the match after scoring a hat-trick against FC Fredericia at the weekend. Three goals in a quarter of an hour, which gave a halftime lead of 3-0, was however only enough for 3-3.
– It has helped that the goal account has been opened in the league. It has been a bit thin on goals lately, but personally I have gained some confidence from that match. That needs to be built on, says Drost, who so far this season has scored three times in two cup matches.
– We have met three lower-ranked teams, and I have played the two most recent matches. It’s a way to build up some confidence. To use those matches to find the goal-scoring form. It’s not a given that you do that, so you still have to work for it, even if it’s against teams that on paper are worse.
– We are a bit in the same situation against Lyngby, just with the opposite sign. It’s a bit of a free match for us. We face a better opponent on paper, and we have struggled. But we just have to go out and play freely and not keep in the back of our minds that we desperately need points.
FC Helsingør has recently changed the head coach position, where it is now the former F.C. Copenhagen goal-getter Alvaro Santos who is in place. Having an old striker as head coach is something Drost can use.
– It’s always great to have a coach who sees things a bit from the striker’s point of view. I’ve tried that with Bo Henriksen, but it was after all very defensive football in Horsens, says the striker.
– Having a coach who himself was a striker, and who can help me and see my qualities is great.
– When there has been a bad period, there is always a boost and some energy when something happens. It is usually on the coaching front that something happens first. You could see against Fredericia that when we get things working, we have a really good team. In 99 out of 100 cases we also win that against Fredericia.
The match between FC Helsingør and Lyngby Boldklub is played today at 18.00. The match can be watched live on pokalturnerning.dk
