Despite another well-played match from FC Helsingør, the home team still had to swallow a 1-2 defeat in Sunday's match against Fremad Amager, who, as had often been seen earlier in the season, were just a little sharper in front of goal than the home team.
But it was FC Helsingør who started best. Barely five minutes had been played with FCH in the driver's seat, when Matheus got the ball on the left side. The Brazilian made a good run up along the sideline, even though he was heavily pressured by two Fremad Amager defenders. Matheus found Osama Akharraz centrally, and Osama took a neat touch to the left, after which he shot toward the right side of the goal. But Amager goalkeeper Niclas Dannevang was alert, and caught the ball. Good build-up and good attempt from FC Helsingør.
Just before the clock reached ten minutes, FC Helsingør got a throw-in outside the box. Jonas Henriksen took one of his trademark long throw-ins, and at the near post captain Holm flicked it on so the ball dropped down to a very free Mikkel Basse centrally in front of goal. Basse didn't seem to realize how free he actually was, and the midfielder rushed it and sent the ball wide. Huge chance for FCH.
Shortly after, Fremad Amager became dangerous for the first time. An Amager player beat his man on FCH's right side and approached the byline. From there he sent a ball into the box in a half-shot/half-cross. The sharp ball flashed through the area and went to the far post and back out into play. There another Amager attacker was ready, and he struck it hard first time, but his shot was blocked right in front of goal.
After 16 minutes Helsingør got a corner. “TK” sent a sharp ball in front, where Pascal Gregor got in front of his man and rose to meet it. His powerful header was just tipped over the bar by Dannevang, who had started well in the Amager goal.
FC Helsingør swarmed around Fremad Amager's goal for the next quarter of an hour, and created a handful of corners and throw-ins that led to several shots, but each time a saving Fremad foot got in the way of the shots.
But after 33 minutes, against the run of play and chances, it was still Fremad Amager who took the lead. After a free kick was sent in toward FC Helsingør's goal and headed away, the rebound dropped to Marcus Bay's feet just outside the box, and he struck the ball hard and low first time, sending it in behind Mikkel Bruhn.
0-1 Fremad Amager
FC Helsingør tried to find a way through Fremad Amager's lines, but they were compact, and it was difficult for FCH to find the solutions. Therefore, the first half ended with a narrow Fremad Amager lead.
Barely ten minutes had been played in the second half when FC Helsingør got a golden opportunity to equalize. A shot from Matheus from the edge of the box was blocked by Fremad Amager's Atchou with his hands. Penalty! Pascal Gregor went to the spot, but his shot went over the goal. Apparently the penalty spot is cursed for FC Helsingør this season.
A couple of minutes later, Fremad Amager went on a counterattack. In front of goal Anton Googe and former FCH player Pierre Larsen were free. Googe took the shot, but Mikkel Bruhn miraculously got a foot to it. Pierre followed up, but Mikkel Bruhn had somehow gotten back on his feet and made the save right by the post. Huge double save by Bruhn.
But the minute after, things went wrong. Marcus Bay got the ball in the box on a cross, and drove it home from close range, with no chance for Bruhn.
0-2 Fremad Amager
So it looked difficult for the home team, but just before we reached the 70 minute mark, FC Helsingør finally managed to get a breakthrough. A corner was whipped in by “TK”, and in front of goal substitute Anders Holst was alert, and unmarked, and could place the ball controlled past Niclas Dannevang.
1-2 FC Helsingør
FC Helsingør pressed and pressed towards stoppage time. The home team tried long balls up to the forwards, and with more polished play through the middle, but it made little difference against the very deep-sitting Fremad Amager lines.
In the referee's added time, it was instead Fremad Amager who got one last big chance. Pierre Larsen received a good ball on the right side and took a long run down the flank. In front of goal he found Atchou who took the shot, but hit the ball awkwardly. At the far post another Amager player was ready, but Bruhn saved his shot.
FCH tried a barrage of long balls forward in the final minute, but they did not get a shot away, and so time ran out for the home team, who had to swallow a heavy 1-2 defeat.
