FC Helsingør recorded their fifth win of the autumn, as Lyngby were beaten 2-1 in a match that, especially in the first half, was largely played on FCH's terms.
However, Lyngby started best, and already after three minutes they had a big chance when a corner was cleared out of the box and fell to Mathias Hebo, who struck it first time, but his fine shot luckily went just over the crossbar.
The match started with many close duels, and not particularly polished play, and it was not until the 11th minute that Helsingør got anything resembling a chance. Tobias Christensen won the ball in midfield and carried it up through the lines, and finished after the long corner, but the ball went wide.
The shot fired up the home side, and shortly after Matheus Leiria got through on the left side and drove into the box, but the Brazilian could not get a shot away. But just minutes later the high press led to another chance, as FCH buzzed around the Lyngby box with good passes and runs across the pitch. The ball ended up with Adnan Mohammad, who took a decisive shot from outside the box with a powerful strike, but Lyngby's Mikkel Andersen was alert and punched the ball out of danger.
But after 20 minutes it was no longer working for Lyngby. The ball was won in midfield, played out to Frederik Bay, who found Adnan Mohammad, who cheekily played Daniel Stückler through in the box. Stückler laid the ball across to an onrushing Tobias Christensen, who calmly fired it home.
1-0 FC Helsingør
The goal did not make FC Helsingør let off the gas. And seven minutes later Helsingør struck again. A completely free Tobias Christensen on the right side sent the ball in a hard and precise arc into the box, where it found an unmarked Mikkel Basse at the back of the six-yard box. The midfielder finished first time, and the ball flew into the net by the base of the post.
2-0 FC Helsingør
From then on, it was all FC Helsingør. And the home side had both the play and the chances. Stückler and Tobias Christensen had good attempts, first from a scramble in the box for Stückler and then from long range by "Toby". Lyngby, on the other hand, were under pressure and mainly looked for counters off the few mistakes made by the Helsingør midfield. But they had more than usual trouble playing their way past a well-performing FCH back line.
Only a minute before the break, Lyngby managed to play their way to something resembling a big chance. A drop ball over FCH's back line found Mayron George alone in the box, but he fired the big chance over. Only afterwards did the relieved Helsingør players realize that George had just been offside.
Thus FCH could go into halftime with a 2-0 lead that could easily have been a couple of goals larger.
At the start of the second half, Mathias "Malte" Johannsen came on in place of Frederik Bay, who had to withdraw with an overload in his hamstring.
Lyngby started more offensively after the break, and twice within the first five minutes Kim Ojo broke free, but both times he was narrowly offside.
With 53 minutes on the clock, Lyngby's Mikkel Rygaard was brought down on the edge of the box. He took the ensuing free kick himself, which, unfortunately for FCH, he curled over the wall and into the net. A somewhat unnecessary goal to concede.
2-1 Lyngby
The goal woke FCH up, and they came into the tackles a bit more fiercely, and after a quarter of an hour Adnan Mohammad got a shot away when Tobias Christensen found him on the right side. But Adnan's shot was too close to the Lyngby keeper, who gathered the little dribbler.
65 minutes had been played when Lyngby earned a free kick almost exactly from the same spot where Rygaard scored from. This time it was the son of the old free-kick specialist Lars Højer, Casper Højer, who stepped up to the ball. He struck it hard and accurately, and caught Mikkel Bruhn on the wrong side, but on the line Ricki Olsen was able to clear it away. Close!
Five minutes later Lyngby came agonizingly close. Yet another free kick was conceded just outside the Helsingør box, and from the ensuing kick Patrick Olsen raised his arm to protect his face, and referee Jakob Kehlet pointed to the penalty spot. The usually so reliable Mikkel Rygaard stepped up to the ball, and a gasp went around Helsingør Stadium. But Rygaard overplaced the shot, which hit the crossbar and went wide. Still 2-1 to FCH.
Lyngby were the better side in this phase of the match, and shortly after Mikkel Rygaard was close again. He cut in from the right side and, under heavy pressure, got his shot away. The attempt was not particularly powerful, but it was placed right by the left post, and Mikkel Bruhn had to stretch to full length to save the ball.
After 74 minutes, the ball found Ricki Olsen on the right flank, and the full-back cut inside and finished from a fairly free position, but unfortunately his shot went over. Good attempt from FC Helsingør.
After 83 minutes, Adnan Mohammad was close. The in-form Tobias Christensen cut in from the right, but could not get a shot away himself. He slipped the ball through, finding Adnan, but the Lyngby defense closed him down well, and his effort was blocked.
After 90 minutes, Lyngby got another free kick on the edge of the box. Casper Højer stepped up to the ball and struck it high and hard, but the ball flew just over the goal. It was nerve-racking minutes for the home side right up until the final whistle, but after three minutes of added time Jakob Kehlet's whistle cut through the crystal-clear air, and everyone in and outside the stadium could let a relieving cheer burst forth.
