FC Helsingør played the second warm-up match of the same weekend on Sunday, as they visited Brøndby IF's reserve team at Brøndby's training ground. But it was a team with Superliga profiles such as Michael Lumb, Thomas Mikkelsen, Jens Martin Gammelby and Michael Uhre, as well as big talents like Skipper, Frendrup and Singh in the lineup, so it was absolutely a strong side, which FCH also had to feel.
FCH started the match well, and after a couple of minutes Tonni Adamsen had the game's first shot, but it was blocked in the box. But as the half progressed, Brøndby pressed more and more, and the FC Helsingør players had plenty to do defending. They did so quite competently, and there were long spells between chances at either end in the first 45 minutes. The damp heat over Vestegnen also left its mark on the physical exertions.
Brøndby had a couple of long-range efforts straight at Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard, who was back in the FCH goal, and one dangerous free-kick attempt from Gammelby. But it was not until the 44. minute that BIF got reward for its efforts. Michael Uhre beat the offside trap and ran through alone with Kevin Stuhr, and last season's top scorer in the Superliga did not miss, but calmly placed it low inside the left post.
1-0 Brøndby IF
From the start of the second half, FC Helsingør became somewhat better involved in the match and managed to put a fine pressure on the Brøndby goal in the first quarter of an hour. Tonni Adamsen came close to another good chance, this time from a cross, but once again had his shot blocked at the last moment.
Instead, Brøndby extended the lead when the home team once again outsmarted FCH with a run in behind from the right side of the offside line. Young Mathias Kvistgaarden got through in the box, and he elegantly lifted the ball into the far corner, sending Brøndby on course for victory.
2-0 Brøndby IF
Oliver Kjærgaard played the whole match in central midfield for FCH, and he played a fine match on the day. After 68 minutes of play, he found substitute Alexander Lyng brilliantly, who cut into the box and reached the byline. There he delivered a good, low cross through the six-yard box, but centrally in front of goal only Geertsen had joined the attack, and he could just barely not reach the ball.
Just around the 75. minute Brøndby then closed the match with the goal for 3-0, and once again it was Kvistgaarden who scored. He broke free in the six-yard box and was first to a cross from the right side, which he guided into the net at knee height.
3-0 Brøndby IF
After that, the air went out of the match, and Brøndby played the ball wisely around in their own ranks, while FC Helsingør made a few too many passing errors in the build-up play for the counterattacks to become truly dangerous.
The referee blew for full time exactly as the clock reached 90 minutes, and the FC Helsingør players could at least take comfort in having logged many miles in their legs, as well as the fact that in the good periods they matched the Brøndby players well technically. But it was also clear that several of the FCH players had played in yesterday's match as well.
Now it's training and recovery until Friday, when FCH heads south to meet HB Køge in the penultimate warm-up match. It is at 12.00.
