It ended in a share of the points when FC Helsingør visited Lyngby on Sunday. FCH played another good match in terms of football and created many good chances in the match. But Lyngby were also dangerous, and had several big chances to take the win in stoppage time.
The match started with a slight edge for the home side, but it was still FC Helsingør who created the first opening for a big chance. After four minutes Anders Holst got the ball a little outside Lyngby's box and sent a cheeky through ball between two Lyngby defenders to Lange, who timed his run correctly. It was half a shoe size away from the winger reaching the ball, but it just narrowly went past him. Well spotted by Anders Holst.
After ten minutes the home side had their first shot. Lasse Fosgaard got a rebound a little outside the box and cut across toward the right. Under heavy pressure from Carl Lange, he let fly, but he couldn't get the ball past both Lange and Bruhn without it also going wide of the goal.
The next ten minutes belonged to FCH. Carl Lange worked his way into a couple of good chances, but hesitated too long in two good shooting positions in the box, and nothing came of them.
Shortly after, Anders Holst was completely free through on goal when a Lyngby player made a mistake right in front of his own box. Holst laid the ball square across, but Douglas, who was marked with a defender in front of him, could not turn and finish. Big chance, which Holst perhaps should have shot at himself.
After 26 minutes, Lyngby had their biggest chance so far. Gustav Marcussen went past his marker on the left side and toward goal. He shot from a slightly tight angle, but the ball went past the far post. Quite a big chance for Lyngby.
Shortly after the half hour mark, FCH managed to take the lead. Bay carried the ball forward and found Carl Lange. He cut in in front of goal and shot. There was a lot of traffic in front, so his shot was blocked, but it fell right to Anders Holst, who struck firmly. Goalkeeper Thomas Mikkelsen could not see the shot, and the ball flew into the net between friends and foes.
1-0 FC Helsingør
But five minutes before the break Lyngby equalized at 1-1. A ball was played across the FCH box from the right side, then headed back across again, and found a somewhat unmarked Kristian Lindberg at the far post, and he hit it from point-blank range and saw the ball squeeze in by the post, beyond Mikkel Bruhn's reach.
1-1 Lyngby BK.
No more goals were scored, but FC Helsingør could go into the break with the feeling that they had been the better of the two teams.
The second half started with a veritable storming run toward the Lyngby goal, and the ball was barely on FC Helsingør's half. That produced a number of dangerous runs around the box, without it becoming truly dangerous. It was only five minutes into the half that a rebound finally fell to Mikkel Basse, who shot from a yard or so inside the box. However, he did not keep the shot down, and the ball sailed over the crossbar.
After that, Lyngby got a bit more into the match, and the game was moved further up the pitch. On the other hand, that gave a bit more space for runs in behind, and both Anders Holst and Carl Lange had a couple of really good runs toward goal, but it was as if things stalled when the Helsingør players reached the Lyngby box.
The closest in this phase was Douglas, who on a well-delivered corner kick threw himself forward and headed toward goal from an almost prone position, but the ball went wide of the wrong side of the post.
After 67 minutes, Bay received an excellent cross-field pass from an in-form TK. The full-back took on his man with a fine dribble and into the box. There he shot toward the far corner, but Martin Ørnskov got down at the last moment and stopped the shot.
Three minutes later Matheus got the ball on the right side just over midfield. He sped past his marker with great pace and carried the ball with him into a run toward goal. There he produced another neat dribble and shot toward the top corner at the far post. But goalkeeper Thomas Mikkelsen was alert and tipped the shot over the bar. Excellent move by the Brazilian.
After 73 minutes, Douglas won a free kick five meters outside the box when the referee judged that a Lyngby player went into his back. TK stepped up and hit the free kick really well, but again Thomas Mikkelsen tipped the ball over the goal. He was a good man for his team on the day.
When the clock reached 81 minutes, Lyngby came up with their biggest chance of the half so far. After a bit of scrappy play on FCH's right defensive side, the ball was played across to Gustav Marcussen, who let fly after controlling it, but fortunately for the visitors the ball went narrowly over the goal. Close for Lyngby.
Just before the clock reached the 90 minutes, two huge chances fell to Lyngby. First a long shot from Jesper Christjansen was stopped by a handball save from Mikkel Bruhn, and shortly after it was none other than former FCH player Adnan Mohammad who had to watch a shot be saved on the line.
In stoppage time Gustav Marcussen had another big chance when a cross found him free on the left side of the box, but again he could not keep the shot inside the frame. And when referee Patrick Rasmussen blew for full time shortly after, it had to end with one point each. FC Helsingør had played best, and Lyngby had the biggest chances, so all in all the draw could be defended.
