FC Helsingør’s preparations for the upcoming season in the Alka Superliga are in full swing, and on Thursday the first contract extension fell into place.

Defender Mathias “Malte” Johanssen has extended his contract by two years, until the summer of 2019.

– “Malte” has done really well at left-back, which he has shared with Frederik Bay. These are two players we believe can make a difference for our team, and who can keep each other sharp. We were determined to keep “Malte,” and it is great that he feels the same way. He has gone through a good development since he started at the club, and it is our hope that he can continue his progress and establish himself as a Superliga player, says FC Helsingør’s director Janus Kyhl.

Head coach Christian Lønstrup was pleased that FC Helsingør has kept hold of the full-back.

– Well, it’s really great that we have extended with Malte. He was a bit of a dream player to bring into the squad, and with Bay and “Malte” we are well covered both at full-back and on the wings. It is a great advantage to have two left-footed, defensive players in the squad, so I am very happy about the extension.

The man himself was also very satisfied with the two-year extension, and is looking forward to proving himself in the Alka Superliga.

– The Superliga is, of course, the dream. That is the goal I have been aiming for. It is clear that there is competition for places, and there should be. But I believe that I can make it in the Superliga, and that we have a team that can compete in the Superliga. Of course, it depends a little on who comes and goes, but if we keep our good players and get a few additions, we have a team that can compete, definitely.

Mathias “Malte” Johanssen joined FC Helsingør from Næstved Boldklub in February 2017, and has played 7 matches for the club.
