There was great joy in FC Helsingør's talent and youth department when it was confirmed today that FCH has been awarded a B licence from next season. This means that both U17 and U19 teams will play in the second-highest division from summer, unlike this year, where only the U17 team has played in the second-highest division, on a wildcard.
Talent director Marc Thevis hurried home from a meeting in Brøndby to the good news:
We are proud today. Proud and delighted. The B licence is the result of the togetherness we have created up here, and the tireless efforts our many dedicated, skilled coaches and leaders have put into developing us individually, within each team, as a club and as one overall organisation.
The great development the senior team has gone through, we have managed to follow closely, and we have made enormous progress on the talent side in recent years. But we are a club that still has big ambitions, and it is important that we see the B licence more as a starting line than a finish line, even though today we are pleased that the licence means we are even better ensured solid matching for the talents, so that we can develop more players for our Superliga team and players who can perform at the highest level.
Likewise, director Janus Kyhl was also delighted with the awarding of the licence:
– We are very, very happy. This is a huge feather in the cap for the great work that has been carried out in the youth department, both in the daily work with the players, but certainly also in building the organisation that is the foundation for all the talent work. In this connection I would also like to send a big thank you to Helsingør Talent og Elite, who have been fantastic partners for cooperation and sparring.
At FC Helsingør we have prioritised youth work very highly, especially since 2012, to the joy and benefit of FC Helsingør, parent and partner clubs and the entire region. Fortunately, we have had a board that has stood behind that prioritisation all the way. It is no secret that it costs a lot of money to have a professional and broad-based youth department, and the board has stood behind the club with confidence and resources without hesitation.
We have reached a milestone with the B licence, but we must remember that it is not an end in itself, but merely a tool that helps us develop skilled footballers. Today we allow ourselves to pat ourselves and each other on the back. But already in a few hours we are back on the pitches, and the journey must continue towards new milestones, where a possible wildcard to the top division, and in the longer term an A licence, will be the big goals.
