Brønshøj became the stopping point for FC Helsingør’s status as unbeaten in 2. Division, as “The Wasps” ran off with a 2-1 win in Tingbjerg.
The match started with a bang, and barely two minutes of kick-and-rush football had been played when the FCH defence made a blunder, and Alexander Lazerevic suddenly stood free in the box. He hammered the ball in by the near post, with no chance for Christoffer P in the FCH goal. A bad start in Tingbjerg for FC Helsingør.
1-0 Brønshøj BK
The minute after, FC Helsingør had the ball in the net after a corner. Some scrimmaging produced a headed chance for Nicolas Mortensen, who headed the ball into the goal, but the assistant referee’s flag was already raised for offside.
After 12 minutes of play, Dalton Wilkins, who was playing instead of a slightly injured Anders Holst, put the ball in to Jeppe Kjær on the edge of the box. Dalton’s fine cross fooled a Brønshøj defender, but Jeppe Kjær could not quite control the ball, and the chance came to nothing.
The minute after, a Brønshøj player got away down the left wing and sent a superb cross in towards Alexander Lazarevic, but Christoffer Petersen came out of his goal and collected the ball right under Lazarevic’s nose. Big chance for Lazarevic, but good intervention by Petersen.
After a quarter of an hour, FCH won a free kick outside the left side of the Brønshøj box. Norouzi sent the ball in, but it was cleared out of the area. There stood Dalton ready, and he took a touch toward the box, where a Brønshøj player stuck out a leg. Dalton bit the grass, but the referee judged that too much time had passed between contact and fall, and Dalton had to take a booking for diving.
Jeppe Kjær was constantly lurking for the counterattacks that Brønshøj’s advanced defence created opportunities for. After 22 minutes, it was close to working when a through ball sent him away. Unfortunately, a Brønshøj defender got close enough to Kjær to make him lose a step, and he had to settle for an effort from the edge of the box that had both height and curl, but not quite the direction. The shot went wide of the far post.
As we passed the half-hour mark, FCH had their biggest chance so far. Lucas Haren fooled his man on the edge with a neat dribble, and sent a low cross in towards the six-yard box. There stood Jeppe Kjær free in front of the near post, and hit the ball first time. But Oliver Korch in the Brønshøj goal pulled out a top-class foot save, and got the very tip of his toes to the shot, which thus went past the wrong side of the post. Great play by Haren and Kjær, but a fantastic save by Korch.
It was FCH who pressed on towards the break, while Brønshøj looked for the counterattacks. That led to a lot of crosses into the Brønshøj box and a few shots from distance, but nothing that became really dangerous. On one occasion Oliver Korch had to tip a shot from Jeppe Kjær over the bar, but FCH did not get any closer, and so the visitors went into the break behind 1-0.
It was Brønshøj who started the second half best, and already in the first minute a Brønshøj player got away down the left wing and sent a mix of a shot and a cross hard towards the far post. The ball, however, went wide. But gradually FC Helsingør worked their way into the game, and piled on pressure around the Brønshøj box, with a few corners and long-range efforts to follow, but nothing that really threatened goalkeeper Korch.
But Jeppe Kjær did not let himself be discouraged by the fact that his dribbles had not really gone the way he wanted for most of the day. After 57 minutes he got the ball a bit outside the box. He took a single touch away from goal, and then blasted the ball from about 30 metres. The ball flew in a beautiful arc over goalkeeper Korch and into the net. A fantastic goal by Jeppe Kjær.
1-1 FC Helsingør
The next ten minutes were somewhat messy from both teams, and marked by a number of close duels. There were yellow cards for Daniel Norouzi and a couple of Brønshøj players, and the play was a bit more physical than in the first half. After 66 minutes, Dalton Wilkins came off and was replaced by Eli Just.
We had to get to the 72th minute before the next big chance came. Daniel Norouzi delivered a superb corner onto the head of Jonas Henriksen at the near post, but Oliver Korch was well positioned, and with a superb reflex save he pushed it over the bar. Centimetres away from Jonas Henriksen scoring his second goal in an FC shirt.
Just before we reached the 80 minutes, Brønshøj won a corner. It was delivered perfectly onto the forehead of Alexander Lazarevic, who once again did damage to FC Helsingør. He headed the ball uncontested past Christoffer Petersen and once again put Brønshøj in front.
2-1 Brønshøj BK
Five minutes later, FCH were very close to equalising. Eli Just carried the ball into the box and laid it across to Jeppe Kjær, who unfortunately got on the wrong side of the ball, and then a Brønshøj defender could put a foot on it and send the ball calmly wide of the post and out. It did not look as if Jeppe Kjær had managed to realise how free he was.
Two minutes from time, the coaching staff sent Andreas Holm on in place of a flat Lucas Haren, in an attempt to add a bit of weight and height in the Brønshøj box. That was close to creating a dangerous situation from the ensuing corner, but Brønshøj managed to scramble the ball away from the box.
In stoppage time, Brønshøj were close to scoring again. A ball was won all the way out by the touchline, and sent in towards two advancing Brønshøj players who were alone with a single FCH player. Christoffer Petersen came out of his goal, but did not reach the ball. As it looked as if Brønshøj were going to score, Ricki Olsen managed in the last second to get back and block the shot.
No further chances came of it, and FC Helsingør had to accept the season’s first defeat in 2. Division.
