This evening FC Helsingør hosted FC Fredericia in the 3. round of the NordicBet Liga.
And let it be said straight away, it was an entertaining match. FC Helsingør took control from the start and already after 5 minutes Oliver Kjærgaard had a shot attempt after fine combinations. However, the ball sails over the goal. Fredericia are dangerous on the counter and after 10 minutes Fredericia have a good low shot which forces Stan Van Bladeren to stretch full length to get down to it. Later in the half, Schoop wins the ball and sends Alexander Lyng through on goal with a fine through ball. The goalkeeper comes well out of his goal and makes himself big, blocking the shot. In this phase of the match FC Helsingør puts pressure on Fredericia. And after 36 minutes we get the match's first goal by Oliver Kjærgaard, who with a header puts FC Helsingør ahead 1-0 from a fine assist by Mikkel Knudsen. It would only take 3 minutes before FC Helsingør were on the scoresheet again. Once again it is Mikkel Knudsen who breaks through on the right side and sends a fine cross-field pass into the box, where Oliver Klitten appears and makes it 2-0. In the last minute of the 1. half FC Fredericia win a corner and from the cross Valence Nambishi rises highest and heads the ball into the net from close range. Reduction to 2-1 and that was the score at halftime.
In the 2. half FC Helsingør once again comes out best and Nicklas Mouritsen tries a beautiful long-range shot in the 51 minute. Shortly after, Nicolai Geertsen rises highest after a corner and heads the ball narrowly past the Fredericia goal. It seemed as if there would be more goals in the match and after 70 minutes it looks like a penalty, as Oliver Drost is brought down in the box after a good pass from Nicolai Geertsen. However, the referee's whistle remains silent.
During this period the game swung back and forth with chances at both ends. FC Fredericia’s Valence Nambishi has a fine long-range shot, but Stan Van Bladeren is alert in goal and gets the ball out for a corner. A minute later a long ball is sent towards Oliver Drost, who flicks the ball past the goalkeeper to a completely free Callum McCowatt. Callum takes a touch into the box and can safely send the ball into the net for 3-1. After that FC Fredericia takes more of the game and comes to a huge chance a quarter of an hour from time after a corner. But close under goal Fredericia's player sends the ball wide. In the 81 minute comes the reduction, as the combinations flow nicely into the Helsingør box and Nicklas Røjkjær can use the inside of his foot to send the ball into the net via the post. 3-2 with 10 minutes remaining. FC Fredericia puts pressure on in the final minutes to take 1 points home, but FC Helsingør hold firm and thus win the season's first victory in the NordicBet Liga.
The next NordicBet Liga match is again at home, when we on Saturday the 13 August host Hvidovre IF at Helsingør Stadium with kick-off at 13.00.
