Last Friday, the FC Helsingør squad took a trip to Jutland, where AC Horsens hosted the NordicBet Liga’s 29. round. It would turn out to be a quite entertaining match with drama and plenty of goals.
AC Horsens got off to the best start and put FC Helsingør’s defense under pressure from the opening whistle. This led to a couple of chances for, among others,
A.K. Jacobsen and Opondo. After 18 minutes of play, FC Helsingør got their first chance on a counterattack, where Tonni Adamsen sees Oliver Drost free on the right side. The goalkeeper comes out to meet Drost and he confidently slots the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs and 0-1 to FC Helsingør.
A couple of minutes later, in the 22. minute, AC Horsens are dangerous at the other end and after a cross from Opondo, the ball ends up in the space behind FC Helsingør’s back line in the box. There stands Magnus Jensen, who places a fine inside-foot finish and sends the ball into the net with no chance for Sebastian Mielitz in the FC Helsingør goal.
The equalizer gives FC Helsingør a bit more momentum, as they take control of the game and after 36 minutes of play, Tonni Adamsen drives the ball forward nicely. He finds Oliver Drost on the right side and he takes one touch and fires hard and low toward goal just outside the box.
The goalkeeper can’t get down to the shot and the ball goes in. 1-2 to FC Helsingør. In the last minute of the 1. half, A.K. Jacobsen receives the ball in behind after a cross. He shoots first time but doesn’t make clean contact with the ball and Sebastian Mielitz can easily save the shot. We go into halftime with the score at 1-2.
The start of the 2. half is a bit messy, but after a few minutes FC Helsingør get themselves settled. In the 53. minute, Tonni Adamsen picks up speed with 2 opponents around him. With a fine through ball, he sends substitute Oliver Kjærgaard through on goal and, alone with the goalkeeper, he coolly rounds him and rolls the ball into the net for 1-3.
All goals with assists from FC Helsingør’s Tonni Adamsen. AC Horsens try the usual pressure with many high balls down toward FC Helsingør’s box. For a long time FC Helsingør withstands the pressure well and it never really becomes dangerous. Instead, it does so in the 72. minute, where AC Horsens combine on the right side. Magnus Jensen is played free in the box and he squares the ball to Aron Sigurdarsson, who takes a touch inside and sends the ball high into the far corner. Reduction to 2-3 with about 20 minutes left of the match.
After the reduction, AC Horsens continue with their long balls and heavy pressure toward FC Helsingør’s goal. In return, FC Helsingør, and in particular Tonni Adamsen, are dangerous on the counterattack. Tonni Adamsen repeatedly bamboozles Horsens’ bulky defenders and this leads to a few chances for, among others, Kristoffer Munksgaard. In the 88. minute, another long ball is sent down toward the FC Helsingør box, which is initially cleared. The ball is played out to the right side to Santos, who sends in a cross. The cross is headed away and out to Opondo’s feet, who shoots first time. In front of goal, Casper Tengstedt is well positioned and deflects the shot so that it goes in for 3-3. Nothing else happens in the match and an entertaining game at CASA Arena in Horsens therefore ends 3-3.
The importance of the match meant that it was a hard-fought game with a total of 7 cautions.
FC Helsingør take on Lyngby BK at home in the next round. The match will be played on Wednesday, 18 May at 18.30 at Helsingør Stadion.
