FC Helsingør has signed a three-year contract with midfielder Patrick Olsen.
Despite being only 23 years old, Patrick Olsen has been widely around European football. Originally, he was developed at Brøndby IF, where he made three Superliga appearances, but already at the age of 19 he moved abroad, when the Italian giants Inter offered him a contract. He made a single cup appearance for I Nerrazurri before being loaned out to Norwegian Strømsgodset in 2014.
In 2015 Inter and Patrick Olsen terminated the contract, and he signed with another Norwegian club, Haugesund. After that he moved on a free transfer to French Lens, and finally he has been under contract at Swiss Grasshopper CZ.
The midfielder is happy to have peace of mind about his football future:
– I am happy to be back in Denmark, and now I have to get my football back on the right track again. Despite my age, I bring a lot of experience and routine, and I have a feeling that it is a really good match between me and Helsingør.
I love the way the coaches up here want to play football. FCH has a reputation for being good at developing players, and that suits me very well with a team that dares to play its way forward on the pitch. I myself come with good game understanding and technique, I think, and hopefully I can provide a bit of footballing delight.
I have done a lot to keep fit since I stopped at Grasshopper, and I have also been able to keep up well in terms of footballing ability at training sessions up here. Otherwise I don't think Lønstrup and Gellert would have taken me in either.
Director Janus Kyhl is happy about the arrival of the young midfielder.
– We have been watching Patrick for a long time, so we are really happy that we have closed this one. He is a technically skilled midfielder who can give us some more strings to play on centrally. He is a player who has been widely around, and who has now been looking for a place where he could find a bit of peace and bring out his high level again. In that way he is a real “Helsingør player,” and we are very much looking forward to working with him up here, and seeing what Christian Lønstrup and the rest of the coaching staff can get out of him. There is no doubt that Patrick is a player who strengthens us. Both now and in the longer term.
