FC Helsingør has today signed a two-year contract with 16-year-old Nicolas Hald Willumsen (who turns 17 on New Year's Eve). The young striker has had an impressive autumn for FCH's U17 team, where he has scored a total of 23 goals in 13 matches.
Nicolas is one of the local boys, and lives in Gilleleje, where he also played as a boy. When he was old enough he played for FC Helsingør's U14 team, and after a detour to Lyngby's U team for a year and a half, he returned to Helsingør in the summer.
When FC Helsingør offered him a contract, Nicolas and his family had no doubts.
It was a 100% certain choice for me. I feel better here than I have anywhere else, and I play on a team where we work perfectly together. So I play with more confidence and self-belief than ever before.
Nicolas describes himself as a "real striker"
I am a "true 9'er". My strengths are that I can finish with both feet and with my head, and I am aggressive and strong-willed. I try to be the kind of player who never gives up. I aim to be considered for the first team within a year, and hope that by then I can already be knocking on the door for playing time.
Director Janus Kyhl is delighted to have secured yet another of the club's big talents:
Nicolas is a fantastic lad who has been in the club since he was very young, and is a product of the club's strong talent development. His impressive average of nearly two goals per match in the U17 division clearly shows that here is one of the unique attacking talents we are looking for in Danish football. It is still something special for a youth player to get a contract at FCH, as we remain very mindful of the finances, but with the progress that is being made in the youth department, there will only be more talents of Nicolas' caliber in the club going forward.
