On Saturday afternoon, the trip went across the Great Belt, where the team from the city had to fight for important away points against the league’s number 2.

Due to the replacement of the pitch at Helsingør Stadium, the boys had trained on the fields behind the stadium in the week leading up to the match, so the training conditions matched the surface they were to play on in today’s match.

It turned out to pay off in the end, but first a challenging first half had to be overcome. The tempo and quality left something to be desired from both teams, and so the boys went into halftime with the score 0-0.

FC Helsingør came out best for the second half and showed far more initiative. But as we have seen before, we were punished by a moment of lack of concentration, and Middelfart got the chance to take the lead on a penalty, which they converted confidently. 1-0 to Middelfart.

The boys were not discouraged, however. Shortly after, Mathias Brems found space on the left wing, where he beautifully laid the ball across to an unmarked Nani, who equalized to 1-1 at Middelfart Stadium.

In the last 25 minutes, the home team found more space and created several chances. If it had not been for a well-placed post and an excellent performance by Hjalte Petersen in the Helsingør goal, the match could have ended differently.
Fortunately, the margins were on our side this day. The boys’ fighting spirit paid off when Oliver Drost, in the dying minutes of the match, wriggled free in the box and was brought down. The referee had no doubt — penalty to Helsingør!
Captain Mathias Christensen took responsibility, placed the ball on the penalty spot and confidently blasted the ball into the net for the final score 1-2!

The euphoria was unmistakable as players and staff embraced each other before celebrating in front of the few, but dedicated traveling fans.

Thank you for the support — both to those who made the trip to Middelfart, and to all of you who took part in the big-screen event in Fanbaren as well as those of you who followed along from home!

Next weekend the trip heads toward the Copenhagen area, where the team will face the league’s clear number 1 — Fremad Amager.
The match is played on Friday 18/10 at 19.00 at Sundby Idrætspark
