It has been in the pipeline for a while, but now it is official that FC Helsingør and assistant coach Mikkel Thygesen have extended the contract by a further three years from 1. July.
Mikkel Thygesen joined the club in the summer of 2019, after ending his playing career at FC Roskilde.
Mikkel Thygesen was a happy man at today’s training session:
– We have a fantastic working environment, and it has been absolutely crucial for me that Eske and the club’s management have believed in me from the start, and I have had the freedom to develop myself. We have some really good discussions in the coaches’ office, where we can really nerd out about football and go into depth with things, and I enjoy that a lot. In addition, I work a lot with the young players, where, thanks to my own career, I can pass on quite a few experiences and hopefully guide them in the right direction.
– He had to fill some enormously big shoes, and he has done that reasonably well, says sporting director and former assistant coach Brian Gellert with a twinkle in his eye.
– But jokes aside, it has all along been a priority to extend with “Thyge”, and we are happy that it has fallen into place after we recently extended with Morten Eskesen. We have built an excellent team around the squad, and we are very aware of continuity both on and around the team, as we believe that is the best way to move the club forward.
– Mikkel is enormously hardworking and professional in everyday life, and very analytical in his approach, while the young players feel secure with him. He is very well liked throughout the club, with his calm nature and always positive approach. He has a huge share in the great results we have achieved over the last two seasons, where Mikkel, among other things, has worked with the young players as one of his focus areas, and the number of young players who are regulars on the team speaks for itself. You can simply look at the match against Esbjerg, where we start with six young players from the outset. He is a perfect fit for our approach to football and the way we want to train and develop players up here, so we are very happy that he continues as part of the project.
Alongside his coaching work at FC Helsingør, Mikkel Thygesen has completed his A-coach education, and will start on the highest coaching education, the P-coach education, as soon as possible.
