FC Helsingør hosted Nykøbing FC on Sunday afternoon in the 32th and final round of the NordicBet Liga. The visitors from Nykøbing FC did not really have anything to play for, while FC Helsingør still could reach 3 place.
In the opening stages of the match the teams needed to size each other up and there were not really any chances. That changed later, though, and in the 20. minute Oliver Drost carries the ball forward on the left side. He finds Tonni Adamsen on the edge of the box and continues his run into the box. Tonni Adamsen takes the ball and with a fine backheel finds Drost, who takes a touch and with his left foot smashes the ball into the roof of the net. Excellent goal and 1-0 to FC Helsingør.
Nykøbing FC responded quickly, however, and 2 minutes later they break through on the right side. Instead of playing the ball high into the box, the Nykøbing player chooses to send it back diagonally along the ground, where Luhti uses the inside of his foot to send the ball into the goal along the ground. During this period of the match play swings back and forth and many chances are created at both ends. Tonni Adamsen has a low shot attempt, but the angle is too tight. Carl Lange has a fine long-range effort, which the Nykøbing goalkeeper saves right up in the top corner. After 28 minutes of play Nykøbing FC win a corner, which is sent to the back of the box.
There the ball accidentally hits Daniel Norouzi on the shin and falls to Mathias Gehrt, who can poke the ball in. Not much more happens in the 1. half and we go into the break with the score 1-2.
In the 2. half FC Helsingør try to create the advantage. It leads to a big chance for Nicklas Mouritsen, who receives the ball at the back of the box and shoots at goal. But a Nykøbing player gets across and throws himself in front of the shot. At the other end Nykøbing FC have a couple of fine long-range shots from outside the box. One goes narrowly past the FC Helsingør goal and the other shot forces Sebastian Mielitz right down to the base of the post to parry it away.
After that another chance comes to FC Helsingør. A cross is sent into the box and here Carl Lange rises and heads toward goal. But once again a fine save by the Nykøbing goalkeeper. In the 56. minute the equalizer comes. A long ball from deep, from Nicolai Geertsen, sends Oliver Drost away. Drost breaks through and wins the duel with the Nykøbing defense and runs into the box. There he unselfishly squares the ball to a completely free Tonni Adamsen, who can guide an inside-foot shot to 2-2.
After the equalizing goal, FC Helsingør try a couple of attacking substitutions. Unfortunately, there is not really any return from it and the match goes into a period without major chances. At this point in the match, both teams seem content with the result and for a long time it looks as if the match will end in a draw. But in stoppage time, Nykøbing break through on the left side and the ball is sent all the way across the box to the right side. There it is played back with a first-time pass into the area around the penalty spot, where the recently substituted Ole Jacobsen puts an inside-foot finish to 2-3, which becomes the result of the match.
At Sunday’s match, a Nykøbing player was given a rather unconventional farewell. Former FC Helsingør player Andreas Holm has chosen to hang up his boots and FC Helsingør thanked him for his time at the club.
In addition, we of course celebrated our own captain Nikolaj Hansen, who is stopping at the club after 3 seasons. Big thanks to “Hanne” for everything he has given the club.
