FC Helsingør signed a contract on Friday with the experienced central defender Nicolai Geertsen, who joins after most recently playing Superliga football for Lyngby BK.

29-year-old Nicolai Geertsen has played nearly 50 matches in the top flight for Lyngby, and also has experience from 1 Division and Norwegian football, after playing for Sandnes Ulf in Norway's second-best tier. Geertsen has worn the captain's armband at both Sandnes and Lyngby. In addition, Geertsen previously played, among others, for Hillerød and HB Køge.

Sports director Brian Gellert says that Geertsen has long been on the radar:
Geertsen is a player we have made bids for on several occasions, and it is fantastic that it finally worked out for us. He is a top-class player, excellent in duels, and a leader type who always leads from the front on the pitch and gets stuck in when it hurts. He was very high on the coaching staff's wish list, and Nikolai will be a huge asset for FC Helsingør, of that I am absolutely convinced.

Nicolai Geertsen himself is looking forward to the new challenge:
Yes, there has been a bit of a flirtation going on over several years between me and Helsingør, so it's great that everything has fallen into place.

If I should put a few words on myself as a player, I am a strong-tackling defender who always tries to play with heart on the sleeve. I bring a lot of experience, and should be someone others can lean on and learn from. I have a strong winning mentality, and I want to win every game I play in.

In addition, I am good at getting into the box, and have scored quite a few goals in my career, including a couple against FC Helsingør, so I perhaps owe them a bit in that regard. We'll see if I can set that right during the spring. I am incredibly excited to get started, and to win football matches with FC Helsingør.

Nicolai Geertsen has signed a contract for a year and a half.
