FC Helsingør went today to Copenhagen, where NordicBet Liga’s top-scoring team, Hvidovre IF, were waiting at Pro Ventilation Arena.

And a fight was on from the start. Already in the first minute of the match, Liam Jordan got a shot away with his right foot, but a save by the Hvidovre goalkeeper sent the ball out for a corner. Nicklas Mouritsen took it and placed the ball right onto the forehead of Sterling Yatéké. Unfortunately, the keeper again produced a good save. A few seconds later it was Liam Jordan on the ball again. A cheeky move behind his standing leg created enough space on the edge of the box to unleash a thunderous shot, this time with his left foot. The Hvidovre keeper could do nothing but watch the ball fly into the side netting near the goal corner. A fantastic goal and a fantastic start for FC Helsingør.

This was followed by an intense 1. half in a high tempo. Hvidovre had most of the ball, but were not really dangerous. A single cross after half an hour had potential, but fortunately for Helsingør there was no Hvidovre player at the back post.

The teams therefore went into the break with FC Helsingør leading 1-0.

The 2. half was just as intense and the more time ticked by, the closer Hvidovre also came to an equaliser. After 65 minutes, the Hvidovre players appealed for a penalty, but the referee’s whistle remained silent. The pressure intensified and a few minutes before the end it actually seemed that Hvidovre had fought the ball over the line and into the goal. But to great joy for FC Helsingør and their travelling fans, the referee called offside and the goal was therefore disallowed.

Both teams fought until the final whistle, but it was FC Helsingør who in the end knew their visiting hours and kept Hvidovre’s goal scorers at bay.

A deserved 1-0 victory for FC Helsingør, who now move up three places in the table.
