At FC Helsingør, we have a plan to become a new strong development hub in Danish football, where the way is paved for our talents with special potential and dedicated work to make it onto our first team. And a place that gives children and young people good opportunities to achieve their dreams and ambitions, both on and off the pitch.
As an important part of this plan, at the start of this season we have, as known, carried out an internal structural change, where we have brought our U19 team and our first team much closer together. This means coaching resources are now shared across the two teams and more U19 players train more often with the first team, as well as take part in the first team’s matches.
A new initiative in the plan is joint training, where the youngest first-team players and selected U19 players train together for full sessions. This is intended to increase the familiarity between the U19 and first-team players, as well as give the U19 players important insight into what it means to be a young player in the first-team squad. The first-team players provide important input back to the U19 players and are meant to serve as good examples and motivation for the U19 players in their daily work. The first-team coaching staff also take part in the joint training, together with the U19 coaching staff, and the idea is that it should give the first-team coaches an even better understanding of our young players who are on their way up through our system.
For this training we had chosen to bring a small handful of U17 players as well. Players who, through good and dedicated work and performances over a longer period, have shown an upward development curve and therefore got this opportunity.
There will be more sessions of this joint training, which we have chosen to call U23 training.
