Emil Erbas, who has been training with FC Helsingør for the past few months, and who was also with the team at the training camp in Turkey, is entering into an agreement with FC Helsingør, but can only play for the first team from June.
– What has happened is that we have been made aware that the same rules do not apply when signing contracts with amateur players as with contract players, says director Janus Kyhl.
– In short, you can get an automatic exemption to sign a contract outside the transfer window with a player if his contract has ended before the transfer window closes, and get him on the player list. We have used that rule many times, and it is a fine way to supplement the squad and give a player employment who would otherwise be unemployed. The problem, which we have now been made aware of, is that Emil was an amateur player at HIK in the autumn. And for some reason he cannot get an exemption to be added to the player list according to the tournament rules. The exemption option only applies to contract players. That means that Emil cannot become eligible to play for us in the spring, even though his agreement with HIK ended before the transfer window closed, and even though we are willing to sign a contract with him.
Of course one might say that we perhaps should have paid more attention to the structure of the rules, but this is such an arbitrary and pointless rule that we honestly never imagined it existed. Naturally it would have been a different matter if Emil had played matches for HIK here in the spring, but since December he has only been with us.
That said, we have been very satisfied with Emil's contribution to us, and we have decided together with Emil that we will keep the agreement we have entered into with each other. He will train on equal terms with the others, and participate in training and reserve team matches. We are all really tired that this rule is keeping him out of our NordicBet Liga squad until June.
The rules do not cover Ibrahim Samrawi, who has also made an agreement with FC Helsingør, and who came on in the weekend's win against Thisted. The young defender is under contract until 2020
