An era in FC Helsingør’s history is over. Under Finn Moseholm’s chairmanship, the club went from Danmarksserien to the Superliga and has since been a couple of times in 2. division. Through 15 years with changing owners from Denmark and abroad, the former police officer was the solid anchor that, despite many odds, kept the club afloat and always on the right course. With new investors on the way into the club, the association stalwart has chosen to let other forces step in.
Chairman of the Board Finn Moseholm stepped down at the general meeting in FC Helsingør A/S on 3 July 2024. Over the past 15 years, Finn Moseholm has held the chairmanship of Elite 3000 football, the Association FC Helsingør and FC Helsingør A/S respectively.
When Finn Moseholm took office in 2008, the club was in the middle of Danmarksserien and played its home matches at the old Helsingør Stadium. It was also here that the club nine years later sensationally played its way into the Superliga, only to break the attendance record at the old stadium shortly thereafter with 5.300 spectators against FC Copenhagen. Finn Moseholm says:
“I am proud of how far we have moved FC Helsingør over the past 15 years. Of course it was great to be in the Superliga, but I am just as pleased that we have established a fantastic academy, where many young people in Helsingør Municipality have the opportunity to play their football locally”
It is therefore also with great sadness that the decision to step down as chairman of the board has been made. For better or worse, the club has meant a great deal in Finn Moseholm’s life, and there have also been hectic periods with major challenges. The football world is rarely predictable. Finn Moseholm continues:
“I do not hide the fact that it is a major challenge to be chairman of the board in a football world where nothing runs according to a predictable linear plan, and where every time we turn a new corner on the journey, new challenges arise. Many volunteer hours have been spent on football, but it has been a privilege to work with this fantastic football club throughout the past 15 years. I have had many unforgettable moments together with countless good people. We have had victories on the pitch as well as defeats, but experiencing the dedication of the staff and fans through highs and lows has been fantastic”.

The outgoing chairman makes no secret of the fact that he would have preferred to hand over the club in a higher-ranked league than 2. division. That just was not the reality:
“I thought long and hard before making this decision. As a club, we have been through a very turbulent year. Now FC Helsingør’s management must begin developing a new modern strategy focused on creating a club with both positive sporting and financial results. When I made the decision, I had hoped to be able to hand FC Helsingør over to the new chairman in the Nordic Bet League. That did not happen, but I am certain that FC Helsingør will soon be back.”
Director Bo Bay Hougaard comments on the cooperation with the chairman:
“I cannot thank Finn Moseholm enough for his fantastic work and the great results and progress achieved under his chairmanship. It is a great pleasure to work with Finn. Everything he does is carried out with professionalism, integrity and decency. Finn is a club man of another world, who never lets himself be defeated and who always puts the club before himself.”
When asked what Finn Moseholm will do as an alumnus of the club, he replies:
“You will definitely see me in the stands. The light blue blood will always run through my veins. My involvement in the DBU will also continue, but not until after the summer holidays will I decide whether and how I will contribute locally in an association capacity”.
