The American striker Chris Cortez’s contract expired at the end of the season, and the contract has not been extended.

Sporting director Brian Gellert says a few words about Cortez’s departure:
– We have been pleased to have Chris here. He is a good guy, and a good footballer, but neither he nor we have fully gotten out of his time here what we had hoped for. Despite his few matches, he proved to be a decisive player after all, when he stepped up with a couple of important goals in the last critical matches in the fight for promotion to the NordicBet Liga. Chris can, to a very large extent, leave Helsingør with his head held high and the feeling of having made a difference for us at a very important time.

– As for the other players with expiring contracts, the sporting department is currently in full swing evaluating the squad and adapting it for next season. But Chris had offers from American clubs that he would like to take a closer look at, so therefore we are saying goodbye to him now. We would like to thank him for his time and his efforts in the Helsingør shirt.

Chris Cortez made five appearances and scored two goals for FC Helsingør.

RED: A previous version of this article said that Chris Cortez had accepted an offer from the American club Phoenix Rising. This is not correct. We apologize.
