Following relegation from the NordicBet Liga, FC Helsingør has begun work on organizing and reorganizing both the administration and the sporting management at the club, so that the club can be optimized for the fight for promotion next season.
On the sporting side, it has been decided that the club’s sporting director for the North American area, Matt Barnes, will for the time being fill the role of sporting director for the entire organization. In the Danish part of the club, Brian Gellert will move from the role of assistant coach to a more administrative role as chief scout. Brian Gellert will be responsible for sporting matters in Denmark and will, among other things, be in charge of scouting and player recruitment, contract signings, and have day-to-day responsibility for coordination between the first team and the administration.
Chairman Jordan Gardner says about the appointment:
– We are thrilled to be able to appoint Brian Gellert as our new chief scout. Brian has been a skilled assistant coach at the club for almost eight seasons, and was an indispensable part of the staff that took the club up to the Superliga in 2017. Brian Gellert has extensive experience with player recruitment, talent scouting and player management, and his experience in Danish football will be a major strength for us in the work of building a squad capable of getting us back into the NordicBet Liga as quickly as possible. Brian’s main task will be to recruit Danish quality players who fit the challenges we will meet in the 2 Division.
– It is important for us to establish strong leadership on the sporting side of the club, where football decisions are made with input from all relevant departments in the club. Brian will work closely both with the first team’s head coach and staff, talent manager Kenneth Rasmussen, and the U-teams’ responsible persons. Brian will have Matt Barnes as his immediate superior in the work of assembling the strongest possible squad for next season. We are very much looking forward to getting started on the work toward the 2019/20 season.
Brian Gellert himself is looking forward to putting on his new hat:
It will be exciting to help create the sharpest possible sporting setup, and we must work hard to get back to the top of Danish football again. It will be a team effort, where we must draw on all the talented people already in the club, and build on the enormous work that has been carried out over the last many years. One of my most important tasks will be to get our young players from the U-teams up into the first team, and I will be working closely with Kenneth Rasmussen and the rest of our youth department, as well as people like Natalie Ahl and Allan Jørgensen from Helsingør Elite Akademi, so we can build on the young, local talents that we very much want to see in the team.
– I must say that I have got a very positive impression of the American project. These are professional people who come with passion and ambition, and I was not in doubt for a second when they presented the project and my upcoming role in it to me. We are already in full swing planning the squad, and I wonder if we won’t be able to present news about the squad already this week.
