FC Helsingør have signed a two-year contract with the 24-year-old Brazilian striker Douglas Starnley Ferreira.
Douglas, as he is usually just called, comes to Helsingør on a free transfer after most recently having played for Zimbru Chișinău in Moldova. He has also played in his home country Brazil, as well as in Uruguay.
Douglas himself did not know much about Denmark, but is looking forward to the challenge:
-I did not know much about Denmark, but I am happy to be here, and I am looking forward to getting started. I had heard that FC Helsingør is a well-run club that was supposed to fight for its place in the Superliga in the spring. I thought it sounded like an exciting challenge, and I felt that Denmark and Helsingør were the right next step for me in my career. I am a box striker, but I can also be quite mobile and am happy to make runs in behind. I am not as stationary as my physique suggests, he says with a smile.
Director Janus Kyhl has expectations for his new striker:
– We have studied Douglas for several months now. The project already got underway shortly after Matheus arrived, and the coaching staff and I have spent quite a bit of time scouting him. He is good in the box. He can play outside the box too, but his great strength is as a box striker. He has some physicality that we can make good use of, and some exciting elements in his game. He is a player we expect a lot from. He comes with six goals and two assists in ten matches, in a series that has only improved over the past few years, and where the better teams are starting to make their mark in Europe. So we expect that he is a player who can strengthen us right away.
