It ended in an honourable 3-2 defeat when FC Helsingør visited FC Copenhagen's training ground by K.B. Hallen on Wednesday, where FCK's Superliga team were the opposition.
It had not been played for more than two minutes when Anders Holst, after some fine build-up play, put FC Helsingør ahead against FC Copenhagen, who had not really come out of the dressing room. At least, FC Helsingør were the team enjoying much of the play at the start of the match, and especially a well-playing Callum McCowatt should probably have extended the lead once or twice.
But FC Helsingør did not get any reward for their advantage, and instead it was FC Copenhagen who came back into the match in the 26th minute. Pep Biel hammered at goal after effective build-up play through the middle, and Kamil Wilczek was ready when Kevin Stuhr could not hold the powerful shot. The Pole poked the ball over the line, and then FCK were up 1-1
Both FC Helsingør and FC Copenhagen fielded something like their strongest line-up in the first half, so it was clearly FC Helsingør who could be happiest to go into the break with 1-1 on the scoreboard, and a feeling that they had been able to keep up well with the championship contenders from Frederiksberg.
But FC Copenhagen turned on the style in the second half, and barely had the whistle blown for the restart before Viktor Fischer appeared on the left side of the box and confidently curled the ball in at the far post for Copenhagen's lead.
Ten minutes later, former AGF player Jens Stage got to the ball after a corner was not cleared by FCH, and put the ball in for 3-1. Shortly after, FC Copenhagen replaced their entire team to give playing time to reserves and U-players, and FC Helsingør followed suit, giving minutes to Anosike Ementa, Alexander Stjernegaard, Emil Rasmussen and Luca Constabile, who all did well in the second half, which on the occasion was extended by a quarter of an hour so everyone could get playing time.
But it was one of the "old hands" who pulled one back for FC Helsingør, when Carl Lange was alert after a long pass that Victor Nelsson missed, and through on goal alone with Stephan Andersen, Lange cheekily lobbed the ball over the veteran goalkeeper for 3-2, which also turned out to be the final score of the match.
