Today the top team Vejle Boldklub were in the crosshairs and FC Helsingør were to try to avenge the 0-6 defeat from the season opener.
And it did not take many minutes before FCH striker Oliver Drost intercepted a misplaced pass and could run straight at goal. Unfortunately it ended with a somewhat weak finish.
A couple of minutes later Nicklas Mouritsen let fly from distance and won Helsingør a corner, which unfortunately was subsequently blocked at the near post.
In fact, Helsingør had the better of things for most of the first 15 minutes, with fine combination play and high pressure. This resulted in several corners and free kicks with the chance to deliver crosses. Unfortunately, the final bit of ruthlessness was missing inside the Vejle box.
After that, the tempo dropped a little for both teams before Vejle really began to bite back. A couple of through balls in behind the FCH defense caused problems and uncertainty, but Sayouba Mandé still managed to clear both situations.
Towards the end of the first half, Vejle came even closer to Helsingør's goal, and unfortunately the ball also ended up in the net behind Mandé, after a Vejle winger got clear on the left side and sent a flat cross diagonally back into the box where Vejle's Mouhamadou Drammeh put his foot through it.
No chance for Mandé and thus 1-0 to Vejle.
The score held until half-time.
After a chat in the dressing room, both teams came out aggressively for the second half and it took no more than 5 minutes before we had seen chances at both ends. However, without goals.
After about an hour of play, Vejle began to take a little more control of the match and Helsingør's concentration wavered at moments. Therefore Kasper Enghardt and Oliver Drost were replaced by Jacob Schoop and Sterling Yatéké.
This turned out to be a good idea from coach Morten Eskesen, because it did not take more than 5 minutes before Helsingør fought their way to a shot. Unfortunately, it was blocked through fine teamwork between the Vejle keeper and the post. FCH win a corner, but unfortunately it did not really become dangerous.
Shortly after, Sterling got on the end of a high ball first, which was flicked on to lightning-fast Liam Jordan, who set off running directly toward the Vejle goal. He was brought down and despite appeals for a penalty, the referee kept his whistle in his hand. – Still 1-0
In the 73th minute, Vejle were awarded a free kick from around 30 meters, but the effort sailed a meter or so over Mandé's goal.
With a little quarter of an hour left, FC Helsingør made two more substitutions. This time it was Alexander Lyng and Mathias Brems who replaced Callum McCowatt and Liam Jordan.
After 81 minutes, two Vejle players broke free against three FCH defenders and the ball ended up in the net, but the linesman had his flag raised and FC Helsingør therefore escaped in the nick of time. – Still 1-0
With 5 minutes left of normal time, Mikkel Knudsen went off in favor of a fresh Oliver Klitten.
Although it was Vejle who pressed in the final moments, Alexander Lyng still got free on the edge of the box and fired off a shot. Unfortunately a miss and he hurt himself at the same time in the head and had to receive treatment. Fortunately, no serious injury.
After 5 minutes of stoppage time the referee blew the final whistle and FC Helsingør's boys must – even though they deserved a draw – make the trip home with a narrow defeat of 1-0.
